CrosLex
Collin Lieber
This senior had a very exciting year with tackling his 200 wins and taking control
of his dream to take the chart home! Following Croswell-Lexington’s first wres-
tler, Donnie Corby, to grasp ahold of the trophy is none other than more than Pioneers
deserving, Collin Lieber. Going undefeated his senior year, Lieber finished with
a record overall of 209-7. So, it was no surprise to Sport’s Finest Magazine, after
all he had been ranked 1st all year. Although it wasn’t quite this easy for Collin
Lieber to capture first, the 171 pounder reflects on all the weight he had to cut to
make it to the top, some being 10 pounds in a day. So, how does Collin do it? He
didn’t start cutting immediately when his coaches told him to do so. Collin would
do it over a long period of time, so the process of it wouldn’t destroy his body to
any extreme measures, even though that’s who he feels his biggest rival was, “cut-
ting weight.” A favorite thing about wrestling? “Definitely seeing your team come
through on a close dual.” Talk about a team player, but better yet team captain!
Collin starred as a captain of the team his last three years of wrestling at the high
school level. To prepare for such a task in becoming a leader and wrestling the best
he was able to, Collin runs in the other sports he competes in, lifts hard, wrestles 2017
a couple times during the weeks, and has already done one Preseason National
Tournament this year already. A major contribution to Lieber’s winnings are from State Champ!
his practice partners: Paul Scaramuzzino, Keagan Silverthorn, and Coach Lilly.
Also the music that kept his winning, compliment of his favorite band, Skillet. A
favorite memory that Collin will always remember is when his coach would give
everyone a notecard with a personal message on each one for that specific per-
son, right before team districts. But to motivate himself to get back in complete
shape for wrestling over at Central Michigan University, Liber is “lifting hard.”
His projected weight to wrestle is 174. He’s looking forward to having his favor-
ite drill from high school where “Two people stand back to back and the coach
says “go” and it’s live from there.” This 11 year wrestler gets his inspiration from
his dad and team. “They all make me want to push myself harder to become the
best I can be.” Collin Lieber also send a special shoutout to his father for pushing
him hard and always lifting him up, and never putting him down when he lost.
