              David O’Neil

David O’Neil being the first wrestler to place 1st at the state competition
out of Garber, Mitchell Christensen being second. Beating Perry’s Anthony
Gallagher at a five point advantage of 8-3, this eleventh grader finished 53-2
and is now standing at 145 wins and 24 loses. Competitor of the year goes
out to Stuart Massa, he claims as he viewed him as his biggest rival. Before
matches, Christensen would always listen to the Migos station on Pandora, 2017
where he obtained most of his energy. “The hardest part about wrestling
is all the tough work it takes to be good,” Mitchell feels. Techniques Chris- State Champion
tensen used for cutting weight included eating healthy. “I would eat very
healthy. Mainly chicken, tuna, egg white. This was every day for me” A least
favorite drill of his was the Spin Drill. This drill requires you to keep your
chest on their back as they are on all fours and spin around them. Mitchell
felt they were very tiring, but kept on going saying Muhammad Ali and his
father kept him inspired. Christensen claims his favorite pregame speech
is “Wrestling will only be a tiny part of your life ahead, but it will teach you
many things to prepare you for that life.” He is unaware of what he is des-
tined for still and is unsure if he will wrestle in college yet, but the captain
out of three has been wrestling for 12 years and really doesn’t want to give
it up just yet. A special shoutout he’d like to make is to his practice part-
ner and best friend Charlie Newton, for helping him get to that #1 spot.
