The One Thing that Scares Me the Most

I just returned from a wonderful two days visiting my parents in Northern Michigan.  I love going to visit because it gives
me an opportunity to feel like a kid again.  I can return, if only for a short time, to when I felt as if I had no responsibilities
and I was carefree.  I love it.

However, there is one exception.

My parents live in a beautiful 100 year plus, very large Victorian home.  It is gorgeous and my Mom is a gifted decora-
tor.  There is a master bedroom on the first floor and the rest of the sleeping quarters are upstairs.  My parents sleep in the
master bedroom leaving the upstairs for the rest of us.  There are many rooms, large closets and crooks and crannies that
must have been used in the 1800’s.  I will admit it, I am scared to sleep upstairs alone and I am not embarrassed to admit
it.

Yes, I am a great big Wus when it comes to large victorian homes with a million rooms in them. And yes, I need a night-
light, one of my kids and my cell phone in case I need to dial 911,  (grin) but that is not what scares me the most.

What scares me the most is getting to the end of my life and realizing that I wasted the precious time, talents, energy and
opportunities that God so graciously gifted me.  As I get older I realize that time is precious and something that needs to be
seriously invested in if I am going to see a profitable return.   What scares me the most is standing before my Creator and
having to give an account of my life. Of hearing the question, “What did you do with the life I gifted you, Julie?”

The good news is, I don’t have to be scared.  And you don’t have to either. Today is a brand new day and we have the great
joy of starting fresh each morning. Starting with a plan, an agenda for how we want to invest in our moments.  Without
this you and I will unfortunately float through life never really making an impact or even coming close to who we are cre-
ated to be.

If you are reading this, I am going to assume you are a person who is like me.  You want to make sure you life counts.  You
want to make sure that you are using your talents fully and are passionate about your life. You want to know that when
your life here on earth is over you have lived fully and have accomplished all you were created to be and do.

If that is you and you are unsure where to begin, here are two very easy steps to take right now.

The first is to simply decide.  Everything starts with a decision.  The decision often comes after we acknowledge we need to
either change direction or step up the pace.  Decide today, right now, that you will live fully and die empty.  Decide to
believe that God has a plan for you and that with His help you can live that plan and have a grand time doing it!

The second is to live with intention.  Nothing happens by chance.  I believe that God orders my steps, but I also believe that
I am in partnership with Him.  You and I have been given an intelligent mind to use to strategize, plan and to create.  Live
each moment of your life with intention.  Avoid the temptation to being a victim to your circumstances and simply reacting
to the day’s events.  Put yourself in your own driver’s seat of life taking full responsibility and looking forward.

Your passions and talents are gifted to you so that you may work them out in your life’s assignment.  Decide today to inten-
tionally discover your life’s assignment.  I promise you you will never look back and your life will never be the same.
