Barbell Stories pt. 1

Before I was a strength and conditioning coach, I was many other things.  I

spent about 10 years working in human services in many different capacities.
Although my minor was craftily titled “Interdisciplinary Studies”, most of my extra
classes were in psychology and sociology because humans and their brains inter-
est me.

I have always loved the Barbell.  Long before I got into the sports of CrossFit
and Weightlifting.  Long before I owned a gym. I have never given much thought
as to why I loved to lift so much, I just liked it.  A lot. My love for the Barbell has
since been given meaning through teaching others the way of the iron.

The Barbell can be your greatest educator.  It may be the most caring being you
ever meet.  The Barbell will never judge you. It will hold you accountable.  It will
let you know exactly what you’re worth at any given moment.  It will always be
there for you, just waiting.

The Barbell will be your best friend.  It will be your worst enemy. It will give
you life.  It will taunt you. It will try and break you. The Barbell will put you in your
place.  It will teach you to be resilient. It will keep you honest.

The Barbell will teach you to prioritize and sacrifice.  It will teach you to work
for what you want. You want more? Work harder.

The iron gives you nothing.  Everything is earned.
