Soccer with Coach Karim

After coaching the Caro High School Varsity boys and girls soccer teams for a year now, coach
Karim Amellal was asked by various people in the community to investigate the young age group
soccer teams and see how he can help out instilling the European and Brazilian “football” mindset in
these young kids to become potential soccer players at the high school level for the years to come.
Coach Karim identified weaknesses and lack of fundamental foundation within the Caro HS Varsity
Soccer teams. Without basics, it was tough for the Caro Varsity coach to focus on the strategic as-
pects of the games but rather had to spend almost 28 practice sessions to work on the soccer foun-
dation the female varsity players didn’t acquire. One of the parents recommended Karim’s coaching
services to the U12 soccer team coach, Chad Dewald. On a beautiful Sunday Mothers’ Day, the
U12 soccer team consisting of 10 players, was assembled to meet the guest coach Karim to run a
special practice session. The 10 players showed up with great enthusiast to take part on the several
technical drills the coach set-up before hand. The kids responded very well to the coaching direc-
tions and were thrilled to learn new skills from ball control, handling, passing and body movement,
etc. Coach Karim told the kids to remember most of these drills as some of them can be practiced
at home with their own ball. This first contact with young age group soccer players made the coach
very hopeful for the year to come as he has seen great potential in most of them. Coach Karim
strongly believes that with the support of parents, schools and the community, the quality of the
soccer game in Caro and its surroundings will improve in the next few years. Pick up soccer games
for the older age players will start on Friday, June 8th, and every Friday after that at 6:00 pm. at the
Caro home field. Everybody is welcome to watch and support. Stay tuned for more technical coach-
ing sessions for younger divisions.
