Tuscola CountyRunning Away From the Competition

                                          By: Matt Fields

Caro junior, Yami Albrecht, has been running away from throughout the years...It’s always
the competition for years now. The three sport athlete grew fun to race against that kind of
up playing soccer in Ethiopia, and continued trying new competition, especially in this
sports through middle school, finding great success as a area”. Stimpfel will be taking his
running back in football, on the basketball courts, and as a talents to SVSU in the fall.
distance runner in track. “Throughout the years and all of
the sports I have played, I think they helped me to become
              the athlete I am today”.

Yami has never stopped running. The local prep running
standout earned his third MHSAA state championship, this
time in track and field, on June 2nd. With the help of team-
mates Caleb Cotton, Aaron Hulbert, and Bryden Miller, Yami
earned a 1st place finish in the 3200 meter relay with a time
of 8:05.71, which also happens to be a Caro school record.
Yami has also finished 1st at the MHSAA cross country
state finals the past two seasons as well as claiming a na-
tional championship in the mile in 2016.

Yami battled through injuries (plantar fasciitis) this year
and fell short of his goal of a 1st place finish in the mile
(1600 meters), settling instead for a 4th place finish with a
time of 4:19.31. “This season didn’t go as well as I would
have liked it to” Yami said in regards to his individual finish-
es. The goals will be high for Yami’s senior year next sea-
son. “I want to be a 3x state champion in cross country... for
track I would like to be a state champion in the mile”.
In his usual humble way, Yami credited those around him
for his success, “My coaches and teammates have played
a big part in all of my running success, pushing me to live
up to my fullest potential”. Yami also gave credit to a local,
cross-town rival for his motivation over the years. “Carlee
Stimpfel from Cass City has been one of my top competitors
