Millington TARC Teams Make History at Nationals
On May 13th, 2017 the Millington TARC Team traveled to Manassas, Virginia to compete in the Team America Rocketry
Challenge National competition. Michigan had four teams qualify to compete at Nationals and three of them were from Mil- Girls Softball
lington! To qualify for Nationals participants must launch a rocket 775 feet in the air and land within 41-43 seconds while
preventing an egg from breaking. For TARC competition, the lower your score, the better the launch. The top 100 teams in
the nation who meet these requirements qualify to compete at Nationals. Once at Nationals, all teams must reach the same
qualifying requirements while only the top 24 teams move on to the second launch. At the final launch, participants must
launch their rockets to a height of 800 feet and land within 42-44 seconds all while preventing their egg from breaking.
Two of the three Millington teams reached the second round launch. “Team Rocket” with members: Emma Trickey-
Wazny, Emi Coleman, Rebekah Williams, Rebecca Kilbourn, Jacob Koch, Mitchell Curtis and Caleb Breckenridge, took third
place overall with a score of 19.6. “Team Rocket” also won a total of $12,500 in grant and scholarship money as well as earn-
ing $1000 for the Millington TARC program. “Space Jam” with members: Elizibeth McVay, Chadd Kinsey, Brooke Mathely,
Kennedy Gamet, Victoria Hall, Jeremiah Jacobs and Tyler Piske, took 9th place overall with a score of 36.2. “Space Jam” won
a total of $5000 in grant and scholarship money and also earned $1000 for the Millington TARC program. The third team,
“Guardians of the Galaxy”, with members: Lucinda Hall, Philip Bongard, Skylor Cervantes, Justin Carter and Aaron Knoll
placed 36th overall. In TARC history, Millington is only the third school to have two teams place in the top ten. Out of the
ten years of entering, this is the ninth year that Millington has qualified at least one team for the national finals. The Mil-
lington TARC team will be losing 5 seniors: Lucinda Hall, Elizibeth McVay, Philip Bongard, Chadd Kinsey and Aaron Knoll.
The remaining members are eager to compete in the upcoming years and carry on the strong tradition of TARC at Millington
            HS.
