Nathan Furst, Caro, Sr
Nathan Furst had a banner
senior campaign. Furst’s talents
have been known to area com-
petitors for some time now, but
this year he came to make big
statements. Starting during his
indoor season, at the all divi-
sions state meet he garnered
all-state honors against the
best hurdlers Michigan has to
offer. Move to outdoor season
he would only continue and
grow faster. In the 110 hurdles,
Nathan held an undefeated
record going into the state
meet, he just missed having a
perfect season by .01 seconds
in the final race. The same day
he notched a fifth place finish
in the 300 hurdles as well. He’ll Soph
move on to showcase his tal-
ents at Saginaw Valley State.
Justin Kudera, Yale, Sr
Justin Kudera is the lone state
champion of the area and it
comes to little to no surprise.
This season marked his second
consecutive season winning

Meet of Champions. He ac-
complished an amazing un-
defeated season in the 400
meter race where he won a
state championship and won
at Midwest Meet of Champs, a
meet that brings the best from
Michigan, Ohio and Indiana
together. He also garnered
a state championship in the
4x400 relay, a runner-up in
Long Jump and sixth place
in the 200 meters. Kudera

ing performance to Horizon
League powerhouse Oakland
University.
Juliana Hanson, Brown City,
Running fast and having the
last name Hanson has be-
come synonymous in the last
couple years. Following in her
sister, Alex Hanson’s foot-
steps, Juliana has been mak-
ing a name for herself in the
track world. Juliana brough
dominating performances to
every meet in the 100, 200,
or 400 meter runs, occasion-
ally she’d dominate in all three!
She held an undefeated sea-
son in all three events up until
the state meet. She’d go on to
notch a fourth and fifth place
finish in the 400 and 200 meter
race respectively. Just miss-
ing out on the final round of
the 100 by .01 seconds. All of
which come after a minor injury
just shortly before the state
meet itself.
If we were to give an award
for most improved over the
course of their career, Riley
Ford would win. Always a hard
competitor in the area. Ford’s
junior season is when she
began to turn heads and dial
up the heat. Coming off a fifth
place finish at Cross Country
State, Ford did not hold back
any punches coming into the
outdoor track season. All sea-
son she ranked in the top 3 in
each the 800, 1600 and 3200
meter races with PR’s of 2:24,
