Cass City FFA

Cass City FFA is starting to gear up for the many events in the future.  They have
recently added 2 calves to the barn that have been at the Battel’s farm.  FFA member,
Dori Battel has been taking care of them until the FFA barn was ready.  The calves are
Holsteins.  One is a steer about 8 weeks old and the other is called a free martin and is
about 10 weeks old.  A free martin is a heifer that is a twin of a bull calf.  The heifer has
picked up some of the bull characteristics and is most likely infertile.  The calves will
be cared for and trained by FFA members throughout the next few months and shown
at the Tuscola County Fair July 21st-27th.

Three pens of Market Rabbits were also added to the barn.  In each pen is 3 rabbits.
The rabbits will be raised by the 2 junior high agriscience  classes as well as the vet-
erinary science class.  They will be taken to a contest on May 8th to compete against
other teams.  They will be butchered.  The goal is to raise rabbits that have the best
     meat potential.

Other important events that are in the near future are Tractor Day and Food for
     America.
